Peeping Caddis Jig Nymph Fly
What it imitates: Emergent/submerged caddis life stages; jig head for better sink and drape.
Target species: Brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, grayling (and suitable smallmouth bass in appropriate waters).
Where to fish: Freshwater rivers/streams (riffle-pool, tailwaters), spring creeks, weed-free lake bays.
Seasonal use: Spring (hatch up), Summer (cool pockets/deeper runs), Fall (shifted insect activity), Winter (slower, clearer sections; heavier jig head as needed).
Weather tips:
Sunny/dry, warm: subsurface, tight drift, near bottom.
Overcast/cloudy: slightly longer leader, shallower presentation for more takes.
Stormy/heavy rain: use a heavier head, watch turbidity, adjust color/size.
Presentation: Cast upstream, sink to depth, dead-drift with intermittent pauses; keep drift tight.
Tackle basics: 9’ 4-6 wt rod, appropriate reel, sinking/weight-forward line, 9-12 lb fluorocarbon leader/tippet.
